I am sorry to hear that the lube made a mess on the floor. It sounds like it was applied like most of the other chain lubes out there. Unlike most chain lubes this chain lube is an aerosol that ends up as a dry chain lube. It doesn't take much to lube the chain. No more than a few quick sprays as your chain is rotating. It has a solvent in it for cleaning the chain and once dry it has an outstanding lubricant that will keep your chain lubed while not picking up a bunch of dirt/mud that will mess up your chain while riding/racing. After you apply properly it may not look like there is anything on your chain but it is there and will lube your chain during the toughest of riding situations.
